Senior Management Team

Warren Huff   Founding Chief Executive Officer and President

Mr. Huff has led Reata Pharmaceuticals in its development and trials of bardoxolone methyl and other drugs. He was previously the Chief Executive Officer of Ergo Science Corporation, a biopharmaceutical company based in Boston, Massachusetts, that developed neurotransmitter-modulating drugs for the treatment of type 2 diabetes and obesity. Mr. Huff joined Ergo as its first business executive and, under his leadership, Ergo progressed from seed capital to initial public offering in 39 months. Prior to his work with Ergo, Mr. Huff was a senior partner at Dallas law firm, Johnson & Gibbs. Mr. Huff received a B.B.A. magna cum laude from the University of Texas at Austin and a J.D. from Southern Methodist University.

Paul Audhya, M.D.   Vice President of Development and Chief Medical Officer

Dr. Audhya joined Reata with over 15 years of biopharmaceutical R&D experience, and leads clinical development across Reata's portfolio. Dr. Audhya earned his bachelor's degrees (Biochemistry and Political Science) at New York University, his doctorate at New York University School of Medicine, and his MBA from the Graziadio School of Business and Management at Pepperdine University.  He completed his residency in internal medicine at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey (UMDNJ).  Prior to joining Reata, Dr. Audhya led drug development in multiple therapeutic areas including renal disease at Johnson & Johnson, The Liposome Company, Bristol-Myers Squibb, Amgen, and was most recently the Therapeutic Area Head for Renal Drug Development at Abbott Laboratories.

Casi DeYoung   Vice President of Business Development

Ms. DeYoung's previous roles have included business development, portfolio management, commercial operations and management consulting in biotech pharmaceutical companies in the US and abroad. Prior to Reata, she served as Vice President, Business Development for ODC Therapy. She also held U.S. and global positions at EMD Pharmaceuticals, the U.S. subsidiary of Germany-based Merck KGaA. Ms. DeYoung began her career in the pharmaceuticals business with Accenture. She received a B.S. degree in Chemistry and Mathematics from Southwestern University and an M.B.A. from the University of Texas.

Cathy Fanning   Vice President of Program Management

Ms. Fanning has over 25 years of R&D experience in multiple disciplines.  She comes to Reata Pharmaceuticals from Johnson & Johnson with its decentralized model where she had extensive experience in creating new companies and integrating businesses. Her expertise is in M&A, R&D alignment and the introduction of major business processes in a global organization. While at J&J, she held leadership roles in Portfolio & Project Management, Finance, Change and Information Management. 

Robin Kral   Vice President of Licensing and Intellectual Property

Mr. Kral joined Reata from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas, where as Associate Director for Venture Development, he played a leading role in assembling Reata's extensive project portfolio, including bardoxolone methyl. He has also been deeply involved in developing Reata's business plan. Before joining UT Southwestern, Mr. Kral was in positions of increasing responsibility in research, market and competitive analysis, product development and business development at NPS Pharmaceuticals in Salt Lake City. Mr. Kral has B.S. and M.S. degrees in biology from Texas Tech University, and received his M.B.A. from the David Eccles School of Business at the University of Utah.

Melissa Krauth   Vice President of Strategy and Analytics

Ms. Krauth joined Reata Pharmaceuticals in 2004 and has over 20 years of pharmaceutical and health care industry experience. Prior to joining Reata, Ms. Krauth was President and Co-Founder of DrugVoice LLC, a market research and consulting company serving leading pharmaceutical companies. Additionally, she has many years of experience with Accenture, concentrating on pharmaceutical project/portfolio management and commercialization. Ms. Krauth holds an M.B.A. degree in Strategic Management and Health Care Management from The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania and is a cum laude graduate of Rice University with a degree in Biochemistry.

Hilary Malone, Ph.D.   Vice President and Chief Regulatory and Compliance Officer

Dr. Malone comes to Reata from Pfizer Inc, where she was Senior Vice President and Head of Worldwide Regulatory Strategy from 2009 to 2011.  Previously, she was Senior Vice President and Head of Global Regulatory Affairs and Compliance at Wyeth, beginning in 2006 until the company was acquired by Pfizer in 2009.  Earlier in her career, she held positions of increasing responsibility at SmithKline Beecham / GlaxoSmithKline and AstraZeneca.  Dr Malone earned her B.Sc in Physiology and her Ph.D. in Molecular Neuropharmacology from the University of Dundee, Scotland, UK.

Colin Meyer, M.D.   Vice President of Product Development

Dr. Meyer joined Reata as one of its first employees in 2003 and leads all non-clinical, phase 1 and translational development across Reata's portfolio. Dr. Meyer received a B.S. in chemistry with specialization in biochemistry and a B.A. in biology from the University of Virginia. He received an M.D. from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School and an M.B.A. from Southern Methodist University Cox School of Business. 

Sean Nolan   Vice President, Chief Commercial Officer

Mr. Nolan brings to Reata 20 years of pharmaceutical industry experience.  He began his career at Abbott Laboratories and served in a variety of marketing and sales leadership positions across the organization.  In 2004, Mr. Nolan joined the executive team at Ovation Pharmaceuticals, a privately held specialty pharmaceutical company focused on the development and commercialization of therapies to treat rare and severe diseases. The company was acquired by the Danish pharmaceutical company, H. Lundbeck, in 2009 and after leading the company integration, he served as President of the newly created US entity.

Jim Rouse   Vice President, Chief Information Officer

Mr. Rouse joins Reata with more than three decades of experience in the life sciences industry.  Most recently, he was executive director of information technology at PharmaNet Development Group.  Previously, he worked at RES Partners, Pharmacopeia, and Covance.  He began his career at Bristol-Myers Squibb, remaining with the company for 25 years and leading many complex business and technology initiatives.  Mr. Rouse has a B.S. in Commerce / Management Science from Rider University and a Master's in Information Management from Stevens Institute of Technology.

Mike Visnick, Ph.D.   Vice President of Medicinal Chemistry

Dr. Visnick brings to the management team over 25 years of experience in preclinical research while with multiple firms including Hoffmann LaRoche, Parke-Davis and Pfizer. Dr. Visnick has managed research groups in the inflammatory, metabolic and CNS disease areas, as well as directed the computational sciences group at Pfizer. He received his Ph.D. in organic chemistry from the University of Florida, and spent 2 years as an American Cancer Society Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Pennsylvania. He has been a member of the American Chemical Society for over 25 years and is currently an Adjunct Professor of Chemistry at the University of Michigan College of Pharmacy. 

John Walling, Ph.D.   Vice President of Manufacturing Operations

Dr. Walling brings over 25 years of pharmaceutical development experience to the Reata organization. Prior to joining Reata, Dr. Walling was Director of Chemical and Process Technology at Ferro Pfanstiehl Laboratories. Previously, Dr. Walling held positions of increasing responsibility in research, development and manufacturing operations within ILEX Oncology, Cambrex Corporation and Abbott Laboratories. Dr. Walling has a Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry from Iowa State University with a focus on natural products synthetic chemistry.

W. Christian Wigley, Ph.D.   Vice President of Research and Founding Scientist

Dr. Wigley is co-inventor of Reata's pioneering protein folding technology platform and is recognized as a leader in the field of protein misfolding and disease. Prior to joining Reata, Dr. Wigley was a Senior Research Scientist in the Department of Physiology, UT Southwestern Medical Center. Dr. Wigley received a B.S. in Biochemistry and a Ph.D. in Chemistry from Texas Tech University. His post-doctoral training was conducted in the Departments of Molecular Genetics and Physiology at UT Southwestern. 

Jason Wilson   Vice President of Finance

Mr. Wilson joined Reata Pharmaceuticals in 2006 and has more than 18 years financial management and accounting experience in life sciences-related businesses. From 2003 until 2006 he served as Vice President, Finance & Corporate Controller at Caris Diagnostics, a specialty laboratory company. Previously, he was a Senior Manager in the health-sciences group at Ernst & Young's Dallas office serving clients across the healthcare spectrum from the start-up to IPO phase, to the Fortune 1000. Mr. Wilson holds a B.B.A. in Accounting, an M.B.A. and is a Certified Public Accountant.
